A FLARM display is an integral part of an installed FLARM system. The display shows collision warnings as well as the relative position of the intruder, including bearing, distance, and altitude difference. Some displays also have integrated aural warnings, which can simplify the installation. Many displays also offer additional features, like showing nearby aircraft on a radar screen. The display is also used for indicating the status of the FLARM system and configuration items.
Several EFIS and MFD manufacturers have also integrated the FLARM display into their products. This option can be desirable for example if panel space is limited. Some integrated displays, however, have only limited FLARM support, in which case a standalone display is used for the collision warnings, and the integrated display can be used to show nearby aircraft on e.g. a moving map.
All FLARM displays communicate with the FLARM device using a FLARM specific NMEA protocol. The protocol specification is freely available to developers who would like to develop a new FLARM display, integrate FLARM into an EFIS/MFD, or develop other FLARM Compatible products.
To ensure quality, consistency, and ease of use, we offer display manufacturers and others a certification process. Manufacturers who would like to market their product as “FLARM Compatible” and use the FLARM Compatible logo must comply with the requirements defined in the “FLARM Compatible Certification Specification” for hardware and software. Certified products receive a certificate from FLARM Technology Ltd. and will also be marketed by us as FLARM Compatible. There is currently no fee for this certification. The following FLARM Compatible displays, both standalone and integrated, are available on the market.
A FLARM system is only complete and approved if connected to a certified FLARM Compatible primary display. FLARM certification ensures that the display handles all communication with the FLARM device correctly, including collision warnings, status messages and error conditions. In addition, a FLARM system may also be connected to a secondary display for traffic awareness ("moving map"), but those displays will normally not show if e.g. the firmware is expired or if any other condition makes the system unusable or unreliable. The displays listed below are all certified as FLARM Compatible for use as a primary display, using the FLARM display protocol (ICD).
