FLARM04 Reaches End of Life
The first-generation devices, manufactured in 2004, are soon reaching the end of their lifespan. The reason for this is that the built-in GPS receiver inherently delivers an incorrect date). Since the date is relevant for various calculations, the device does not function properly without the correct date.
We cannot easily fix this error, as these devices are technically limited, especially in terms of program memory. For this reason, we were already forced several times in the past decade to reduce the functionality of this series. Only first-generation devices are affected; these can be identified by the lack of a vertical display, only one data plug on the back, and the (if still present) serial number starting with F4xxxx.
We cannot predict on a case-by-case basis when a device will stop functioning, as this can vary depending on the production date of the installed GPS receiver. However, we expect this to occur in the spring or summer of 2023. If a device is affected, it will display an error code 31 (see LED pattern below) once the GPS reception is established. For this, at least version 7.06 must be installed.
We understand that this can be an unpleasant situation for all users of these devices, which we would have liked to avoid. We are happy to make an exchange offer for a current device, such as PowerFLARM Fusion, upon request.
